Umpteenth Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) flick Eternals became the second film to depose evergreen James Bond at the weekend. Nomadland director Chloé Zhao’s first mega-budget blockbuster opened strongly around the world despite mixed reviews. But like its Marvel/Dinsey predecessor Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, it’s proving nowhere near as popular as those big pre-pandemic MCU releases. Speaking of which, Avengers: Endgame has just been overtaken by No Time To Die as the latter vaulted into the all-time UK top five. The only other new release to make the chart also received mixed reviews. Pablo Larrain’s second feature about a modern female icon, Spencer, opened some way behind its predecessor, Jackie.
