George Romero‘s original no-budget 1968 zombie flick, which paved the way for the modern horror movie, kicked off the Midnight Movies phenomenon, and is still pretty damn creepy. Without making much of a fuss about it, the film also broke ground by casting a black actor (Duane Jones) in its lead role.
This 50th anniversary restoration from the original camera negative is the result of a collaboration between the Museum of Modern Art and the George Lucas Family Foundation. The Everyman’s screening is part of its Cultpix season.
