Long missing and believed dead, feral Kelly’s (Nika McGuigan) sudden return to her small hometown on the Northern Ireland border sets tongues wagging. She’s taken in by her angry and confused sister Lauren (Nora-Jane Noone), their relationship being complicated by the family history of mental illness.
Writer/director Cathy Brady‘s feature debut is “often striking visually and heady with atmosphere, and while the script often flirts with melodrama it’s quite refreshing to see a story from that region so embedded in female perspectives instead of that of the usual sectarian men of violence,” enthused the Hollywood Reporter. Tragically, Nika McGuigan didn’t get to see her impressive performance as she succumbed to cancer while the film was in post-production.
Director Cathy Brady will be present of a Q&A after the Watershed’s 6pm screening on September 7.
