Film

Cyrano de Bergerac

Director
Augusto Genina
Running Time
104 mins

Not the definitive 1990 version with Gerard Depardieu, this 1925 French-Italian silent film from Augusto Genina makes use of the laborious Pathe Stencil Color process which took three years to complete.

The film was recently restored by Lobster Films of Paris and is presented here by South West Silents with live piano accompaniment from Stephen Horne. Fascinating trivia note: don’t tell the angy Twitter cancellation mob, but later in his career Genina became an award-winner. Alas, the awards he won were the Mussolini Cup for his fascist propaganda flicks Lo squadrone bianco and The Siege of the Alcazar.
