Top 5 DVD releases – August 2012

Bristol 24-7 film critic Richard Hogg takes a look at this month’s DVD and Blu-Ray releases – August 2012

The War of Flowers

This Christian Bale drama sees him playing American John Miller during the brutal Japanese attack on Nanking in 1937. As the carnage begins the walls of a Western church provide the only protection.

Battleship

Don’t expect subtlety or any sense of character in this action spectacular where a big name cast furrow their brows and rage against a far superior invading alien force.

Margaret

Anna Paquin plays the troubled lead in this drama. She faces a dysfunctional family and the small matter of learning about love and relationships in this well received film.

This Must Be The Place

Sean Penn stars in this strange tale of a retired goth rocker who travels to be with his dying father. When he arrives he learns that his father was a holocaust survivor who was tracking down one of the Nazi guards responsible for the atrocities.

The Walking Dead (Season 2)

Following on from the excellent first season this post apocalyptic zombie drama follows a group of survivors as they journey across America.
