We’re loving the developments on Park Street this summer! First came pan-Asian restaurant Toro, closely followed by tapas bar and lounge La Tomatina. Bagel Boy opened up within The Elbow Rooms in June, and now Dizzy’s Cafe has taken over one of the empty units opposite College Green.
“A family run business offering outstanding service and prices” is how Dizzy’s describe themselves – “the perfect place to relax with a coffee and peruse the morning newspapers or take advantage of our extensive home-cooked breakfast menu”. The breakfast menu certainly looks good – and affordable. Enjoy a full English (or the veggie equivalent) for £5, or a bacon, sausage or egg sandwich for £2.50, among other options.
Lunch includes plenty of hot options for between £5 and £6: chilli with rice and tortilla chips, vegetarian quesadillas with salad, chorizo and broad bean omelette with salad to name but a few. Omelettes, jacket potatoes, toasties, sandwiches and takeaway pasta pots complete the line up, and a range of hot drinks is available for under £2 for a regular, just over £2 for a large.
There’s plenty of space to sit and eat. The cafe feels pretty new, with wooden tables and freshly painted walls and the counter features huge blackboards with all of the food and drink options listed – I couldn’t see any actual menus when I was in there.
If you want to take your food away, prices are even cheaper. I enjoyed a feta, hummus, olive and tomato baguette for my lunch, at a cost of just £1.75.
I’ve not seen any promotion for these guys – bar the creation of a Facebook page – but there was a steady trickle of customers coming through the door as I arrived. They only opened on June 26th, so it’s early days. Fingers crossed they can steal some lunchtime business from Tesco just up the road…
