The games have officially begun and no, we’re not talking about Euro 2012, we’re of course referring to the more female orientated sport known as wedding season. While you don’t want to outshine the bride, it’s a great opportunity to push the boat out and stretch your style to the max. This summer’s trends offer a multitude of options for wedding guest attire, but here are some of our favourites.
Ladylike chic
On the surface this appears to be a very traditional wedding guest outfit, but in fact this look kills several of this year’s sartorial summer birds with one stone – peplums (check!), floral prints (check!) and fifties inspired looks with the fabulous hourglass silhouette of the dress and peep toe platforms…ding ding ding, jackpot! Not only that, but the individual pieces work well with other combinations – you can wear the peep toes again with skinny jeans for a night out, while the clutch works well with a variety of other new-season colours including peppermint green and yellow.
Outfit: Florence Peplum Dress £75, Oasis; CJG back zip peeptoe court shoes by Chloe Green at Topshop, £115; Brandies metal bow trim clutch £65, Dune; Mini carved rose and leaf ring £4, Accessorize.
Under the sea
Marine themed looks are this year’s surprise hit on the high street and I have to confess to being a little bit in love with this Mary Katranzou inspired fish print dress from Zara. If you’re not so keen on a literal interpretation, shimmery pearlised fabrics are a great way to capture this trend. Why not go the whole hog and pair it with shell and starfish themed accessories? Go on, you know you want to!
Outfit: Fish print dress £69.99, Zara; Kaylin shell hard clutch bag £110, Reiss; Pale blue bling strap platforms £29.99, New Look; Clam shell chandelier earrings £6, Accessorize.
French fancy
Wedding photos are a delightful thing. That fabulous bubble perm that seemed like such a great idea in 1988 suddenly doesn’t look so hot when you look back at the pictures in 2012, so it’s understandable that when dressing for a wedding, some girls prefer to keep it chic and classic. One look that will never go out of style is the French girl’s staple, polka dots. Channel your inner Parisian chic with a polka dot dress that’s nipped in at the waist with simple accessories and you’ll never put a fashion foot wrong.
Outfit: Polka dot dress £45, Yumi; Sandy Sandal £185, LK Bennett; Lulu Guiness Perspex lips clutch bag £245, House of Fraser; Mini star ditsy necklace £4, Topshop.
