Twelve arrested during Bristol Temple Meads drugs search

A 22-year-old man was carrying enough cannabis resin through the station for police to charge him with intent to supply

Twelve people were arrested at Bristol Temple Meads station this weekend during a police operation to target people carrying drugs into the city.

Using a sniffer dog, visitors to the city were searched for drugs on Friday between 8pm and 10pm.

Class A and Class B drugs, including cannabis and MDMA, were found, with a 22-year-old man carrying enough cannabis resin for police to charge him with intent to supply.

Inspector Steve Appleton said: “The operation was a great success. We arrested 12 people, one who had a significant enough amount of cannabis to be arrested for dealing.

“The aim of the operation was to provide high profile visibility to the public and disrupt people who think they can use the rail networks to bring drugs in to the city undetected.

“The station provides a good pinch point where people have to funnel through the gates so using the drugs dog allows us to identify people even when it is busy.

“This operation is part of an ongoing series and we want to send a message to criminals that we monitor all major routes and hubs into the city to keep people in the city safe by keeping criminals and drugs out.”

How is that possibly a successful operation? 2 hours to arrest 12 end-users on very minor offences. Huge waste of time and resources. Were they expecting a £1Mil street value of crack to be wheeled through the gates?
