Celebrity comedian Mark Thomas will perform at the Bristol-based children’s charity Barnardo’s annual fundraising event.

The glamorous Summer Ball will be held at Mercure Holland House Hotel, Redcliffe Hill on Saturday June 30 and features a drinks reception, three-course meal, charity auction and dancing. The auction of donations from local businesses includes hotel breaks and a family portrait session with more items to be announced.

Watson will take to the stage as guest host for the black tie bash, joined by renowned local auctioneer Toby Pinn of Clevedon Salerooms, to help raise vital funds for the organisation. Money raised at the event will be used to support local children who are challenged by poverty, abuse, disability and discrimination. The event is being organised by the City’s Barnardo’s Helpers Group (BHG), which is made up of charity staff and local volunteers, with support from Lindsey Williams from the Mercure Group.

Chairperson Robyn Jackson said: “This is our second annual ball and we hope to top the success of last year’s Valentines event at which we raised £1,800. This time round we hope to hit a target of £5,000, all of which will go to local projects. This can only be achieved with the support of local businesses, to which we are sincerely grateful to for the unwavering generosity already shown. We do need more auction items however, and we would love to hear from you if you would like to get involved.”

Tickets, £40, are available from Barnardo’s South West on 0117 937 5526 or 07827 881704 or email robyn_j88@hotmail.com. Discounted room rates are also available at the hotel.

Still to this day victims are lost in a vortex of grieving and emptiness and yes they suffered the worst of all possible child abuse. Suffice to say Barnardo’s has much to answer for and as such should not be involved with children, full stop. Is it not time therefore that the press as the voice of the people expose the real truth behind such a so-called charity and its need to be made fully accountable for its wrongdoings?__

It’s a great pity that people don’t look into the history of the charities they support for I am sure if they did re Barnardo’s they might well think twice. For whilst the last UK prime minister Gordon Brown was apologizing before he left office for the great wrong done to thousands upon thousands of child migrants what has not been addressed is the part played by Barnardo’s who were one of the main agents used by the State to make possible such trafficking of defenceless children to Australia, NZ, Canada, Rhodesia and other countries stripped as they were in many a case of their own true identity and age even to the point of being told that either their parents were dead or didn’t love or want them.
