Bristol’s Architecture Centre has relaunched following a major revamp and the arrival of a new programme manager and centre manager.
Among a new raft of initiatives at the centre, which champions better buildings and places for people in and around Bristol, is a Business Associates scheme which invites local firms to invest in the work of the centre. Already signed up are Aardman Animations and law firm Burges Salmon.
Chair of the centre’s board of trustees David Mellor said: “The Architecture Centre already has a great supporter base of architects and engineers but we’re now looking to engage a wider cross section of Bristol. The built environment affects everyone and we want the Business Associates scheme to reflect that.”
The centre, housed in an 18th-century warehouse on Bristol’s Harbourside, puts on a varied programme of exhibitions, events and education activities to raise awareness of good design, encourage discussion and debate, and inspire people to enjoy the built environment.
David added: “Our new ground floor gallery brings the centre’s exhibitions, resources and information closer to the public passing by on the Harbourside. We’re drawing in even more people and getting Bristol talking about the buildings they pass every day and the public places they inhabit. Bristol has some fascinating architecture – there’s a lot to get excited about.”
The centre has also significantly strengthened its team by recruiting Christine Davis as centre manager and Rob Gregory as programme manager.
Christine formerly worked as project manager at Bristol’s Create Centre and has worked for the Architecture Centre before as regional programme manager. Rob, a qualified architect, is also associate editor of the Architectural Review, a Teaching Fellow at the University of Bath and a member of the RIBA Awards Group.
The relaunch event also gave attendees the chance to explore its new exhibition Bristol: Retrofit City which looks at Bristol’s future as a sustainable city.
