Green capital bid is backed: All four party political leaders in Bristol are backing the city’s bid to become European Green Capital in 2014. Bristol is one of three European cities to be shortlisted for the award, together with Copenhagen and Frankfurt. A team including representatives from Bristol City Council, Bristol Green Capital, Bristol Water and Wessex Water are now working on the final presentation which will present to a panel in Brussels in June. Award-winning reporter who battled for justice: Former Post chief reporter Julie Harding has died of cancer. She was just 51. Julie had fought a battle against the disease since she was diagnosed more than 10 years ago. She underwent a series of operations and despite being in pain always wanted to return to work as quickly as she could. Julie won awards throughout her newspaper career, which spanned more than 30 years. When she took early retirement 18 months ago, editor Mike Norton described her as “irreplaceable”.  More from The Post…

World Snooker Championship 2012: Trump suffers shock defeat: Bristol’s UK snooker champion Judd Trump suffered a shock 13-12 defeat after a great comeback by Ali Carter in the last 16 of the World Championship at the Crucible. Resuming 9-7 up, last year’s losing finalist Trump edged to within a frame of victory at 12-9. However, world number 17 Carter bravely fought back to force a decider and then won a scrappy final frame to secure an unlikely victory.
