Sheik up your summer holiday with a trip to Dubai

Although Dubai has shopping malls and dizzyingly high skyscrapers, it offers so much more to the traveller willing to delve a little deeper

When people hear Dubai  they picture one of two things: shopping malls or dizzyingly high skyscrapers. Although Dubai has both of these, it offers so much more to the traveller willing to delve a little deeper. So why not let Virgin Holidays take you to this remarkable state and show you its diversity.

The Dubai desert is a spectacular sight; with its burnt orange dunes and bright blue sky, it emanates ancient Arabia. It is a magical part of the state and to the intrepid visitor will provide hours of fun.

Although it is possible to get a hot air balloon ride over the desert, the best way to explore it is in a 4×4. There are daily tours that do this and many even include sand boarding and a campsite BBQ complete with shisha and a belly dancer! Most tours will pick you up from your hotel and drop you off again so why not book your Dubai accommodation now?

A hotel you might be interested in staying at is the One&Only Royal Mirage Dubai. Overlooking Jumeirah Beach, it has an impressive eight restaurants and four swimming pools; perfect to cool off in after a day in the hot Dubai sun.

However, if you’re looking for something a little more fun: Atlantis, The Palm Dubai, might be a better fit. An imposing gold building with 17 restaurants, an onsite lagoon (complete with dolphins) and a next-door water park, it is the perfect place to have a lavish family adventure. It even has a teenagers-only venue, Rush Club, that has its own ‘mocktail’ bar.

Another experience not to be missed is the scuba diving at Jumeirah Beach. It’s a safe location to learn and there are two night dives held each month. If diving and water sports are activities you’re interested in then it might be worth checking out the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Shaped like a wave and right on the sea front, it offers a huge array of water sports as well as other activities like tennis, squash and rock climbing.

If all of the above sounds rather energetic and you just want somewhere where you can relax and be pampered, never fear because if there’s one thing holidays in Dubai deliver, it’s luxury.

Renowned for its stunning architectural feats, varied cuisine and hospitality, the jewel of the Middle East is out to make you happy. Fancy a spa day? Sure thing; just go ahead and pick one from the hundreds of places available. Or maybe you’d like a chance to max out your credit card?

The Dubai Mall can help you out there. Otherwise, how about indulging yourself and visiting one of the state’s award winning restaurants? From sushi to steak; Italian to Indian, it is possible to sample a different country’s fare each night of the week.

The long and short of it is that whatever you’re looking to get from a holiday, Dubai will be happy to oblige you with it. So why not let Virgin Holidays take you to this glamorous location and treat you like a VIP this summer.
