‘Large sums of money offered to drop Ashton Vale stadium challenge’: The anonymous resident who put his name to a bid for a judicial review into the Ashton Vale town green plan was allegedly offered “substantial sums of money” to drop his legal challenge, a judge has been told. Last month, the man – who cannot be named because of a court order – told the court that he no longer wanted to continue with his legal challenge. Frozen waste: An Arctic island is to be floated up the Avon and into the Cumberland Basin in a £500,000 piece of “modern art” aimed at celebrating the Olympics. Dubbed Nowhereisland, the floating sculpture is made of the top layers of sediment from a 42 metre-long island off the coast of northern Norway, pictured, which has recently emerged from beneath a retreating glacier. Family of murdered vicar pay tribute: The sister of Thornbury vicar, the Reverend John Suddards, has described him as a “dear brother” in a statement. Hilary Bosworth said: ”As John’s family, we are still struggling to come to terms with his tragic and untimely death, which has shocked all those who knew John, to the core. He was my only sibling, a dear brother, and much loved uncle to my three children. We miss his warm smile, his wisdom and his wicked sense of humour.” The body of the 59-year-old was found in the hallway of his vicarage in Thornbury on February 14 by two workmen.
