Walton Castle swimming pool death an accident: The death of a man who was found in a swimming pool at a 16th Century castle in Clevedon, near Bristol, was accidental, a coroner has ruled. Thief stole handbag from hospital intensive care: A thief stole a mother’s handbag from a hospital intensive care unit while she was at the bedside of her seriously-ill baby. Daniel Hyett, 21, sneaked into the buzzer-entry locker room in the paediatric intensive care unit at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. He stole a handbag and pyjamas belonging to the unnamed woman whose six-month-old baby boy was – and still is – in intensive care. The petty criminal, of Bristol, was caught after being detained by hospital security guards at the scene. Judge Martin Picton jailed Hyett for 16 months at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday, after he pleaded guilty to the theft and another 16 offences.
Students’ recycling scheme launched: A new scheme launched by the University of Bristol is encouraging students to reuse and recycle in a bid to tackle the amount of waste that students throw away at the end of term. The scheme has been introduced with the help of local charity St Peter’s Hospice and now sees every University of Bristol, Hall of Residence with a ‘donation station’ from St. Peters Hospice which will collect unwanted clothes, shoes, books and CDs that will be turned into cash for the charity.
