Royal visit for West polo tournament
Princes William and Harry are heading West this weekend, to play the first in a series of charity polo matches at Beaufort Polo Club in Tetbury.
The Chakravarty Cup on Saturday, July 10, raises funds and sponsorship for the charities supported by the Royal Family and is named after Saroj Chakravarty, a patron of The Prince’s Trust.
This year’s beneficiaries include the English Schools’ Swimming Association, the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund and Wellchild. The Cup’s total donations have now exceeded £1 million, with 2009′s Chakravarty Cup donating over £50,000 to the designated charities.
The following week on Saturday, July 17, it’s another royal occasion as the Beaufort hosts The Prince of Wales Cup final.
Prince Charles’ involvement in polo both in the UK and abroad has benefited hugely from his enthusiastic participation but following a bad fall in 1994, His Royal Highness decided to give up competitive polo.
Club chairman Claire Tomlinson says: “The Beaufort Polo Club has been very fortunate in having His Royal Highness as a patron of the Club since its revival in 1989 and his support for the activities here has been tremendous.”
Beaufort’s 12-goal Prince of Wales Cup honours His Royal Highness and is part of the HPA Victor Ludorum series, making it one of the higher handicapped tournaments of the 2010 season.
St James’s Place Polo Day on Saturday, July 24, brings more top polo action to the pitch and a great day out in support of the St James’s Place Foundation which provides financial support to the hundreds of life enhancing and life changing projects and last year raised £36,000.
