Hunt for missing pensioner ends after body is found
Police have called off the search for missing pensioner Evelyn Westlake after a body was found near the A4 Portway yesterday.
The body was found yesterday afternoon at about 3.30pm on the riverbank, close to the old Bristol & West football ground.
The cause of death is not yet known, but Avon & Somerset Police say they are not treating the death as suspicious.
Mrs Westlake, 80, went missing on Monday, January 11 after visiting her husband at Southmead Hospital.
Police used dogs and the force helicopter to search for the pensioner, who went missing during the icy weather last week.
Her son, Clive, made an appeal at the weekend for information on her whereabouts.
Formal identification of the body is due to take place tomorrow, but officers say they are no longer searching for the missing pensioner.
