Huddersfield Town 0 – 0 Bristol Rovers… Boss satisfied with professional draw
Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope declared himself pleased with his side’s first draw away from home this season, following the 0-0 at Huddersfield last night.
The thoroughly deserved point came as a result of good defending, which restricted the hosts to few clear-cut chances, and could have been so much more – with the post denying Chris Lines’s shot with six minutes to go.
The striker, who has just committed himself to a new long-term deal at the Memorial, surged from the halfway line and his shot was tipped on to the post by goalkeeper Alex Smithies.
Rovers keeper Mikkel Andersen played a starring role to keep out a side battling with the Gas for a play-off spot.
“We are pleased, as Huddersfield is a difficult place to come,” said Trollope. “Their home record is excellent and they have been scoring very freely and as we hadn’t played for three weeks and lost games on the road, as we have, we knew that we were in for a tough test.
“We set out our game plan over the last couple of days and large aspects of it worked and we were pleased with the clean sheet.
“Obviously we came to try to get all three points, but we would have settled for a point beforehand. We haven’t drawn enough games this season, and we are pleased to come away with a point.”
The result leaves Rovers – who have a game in hand on their major challengers – ninth in League One, seven points behind Huddersfield in the last play-off spot. They host Hartlepool, who lost 2-1 at Charlton last night, on Saturday at the Memorial.
