Overnight rain, which left part of Leyton Orient’s pitch resembling a lake, caused Rovers’ game in the capital to be called off.
Referee Kevin Wright was at Brisbane Road in the morning and decided to postpone the match after torrential rain flooded part of the ground.
“It’s very disappointing but, to be totally honest, common sense has prevailed,” he told the Rovers official website.
“I’ve been here since 9am and the pitch was playable at 10am, 11am and at midday. However within the last hour the heavens have opened and we now have puddles on the playing surface and water is running down the tunnel. I have serious doubts that we would ever get the game finished.
“I fully appreciate that it’s disappointing news for Bristol Rovers supporters, but I would hate to have started the game and then have to call it off after twenty minutes.”
The game was the only match to be called off in League One following the wintry weather of the past two weeks, and leaves Rovers in ninth place – following a thumping win for MK Dons and Millwall’s draw with Southampton.
