Tranmere Rovers 2 – 0 Bristol Rovers…… Gas never got going at strugglers

A goal in each half made for a miserable trip to Merseyside, as struggling Tranmere proved too strong for promotion-chasing Bristol Rovers.

In a game in which Rovers barely going, Tranmere took the lead on 29 minutes when a fizzing shot from Craig Curran nestled in the top corner.

Rovers had created few chances in the first half, but came out fired up for the second period – with Chris Lines hitting the bar with a header soon after the restart.

But the stuffing was knocked out of boss Paul Trollope’s side when, after 56 minutes, Gareth Edds doubled the home side’s lead.

Tranmere, lying in the relegation zone and managed by their physio Les Parry following John Barnes’s sacking earlier in the season, found new confidence and could have added a third before the end.

Rovers have slipped out of the play-off places once again and face a tricky home game against fellow promotion chasers Walsall on Boxing Day.
