Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope dedicated his team’s West Country derby win to former chairman Ron Craig who died on Monday after a short illness.

However, he was disappointed with Rovers’ performance – despite the three points – saying there was still a lot to improve on, both individually and collectively.

newroversA Darryl Duffy goal after 33 minutes was the difference between the two sides, but Rovers were indebted to the woodwork and keeper Mikkel Andersen to save their lead.

Speaking on the club website, Trollope said: “We will dedicate the win to Ron. It wasn’t a performance he’d have liked, but we got the three points for him.

“I am far from happy, we couldn’t be too harsh on the players as it is three points, but I think the players know. The atmosphere wasn’t of a great clean sheet and a great win, it was ‘that is not really us’.

“There is a lot to improve on individually and collectively. The way we got forced back and forced deep at times made it look like we didn’t have any legs. Our energy levels weren’t what they are usually but sometimes that happens in games.”

The win lifted Rovers back into the League One play-off spot – but their sixth place position will come under threat when they visit fellow play-off challengers Colchester on Saturday.
