A new walking and cycling guide to Bristol’s Harbour and its heritage has been published as part of the 200th anniversary celebrations.

The free, 60-page booklet covers the entire extent of the harbour and its waterways from Cumberland Basin to Netham and describes about 10 miles of routes.

The booklet features historic images from the collections of Bristol’s Museums Galleries & Archives alongside modern photographs of the scene today.

Author Andy King, the museum’s Curator of Maritime History, said: “I’ve really enjoyed walking and cycling around the harbour over the last thirty years. I hope that others will discover more about it through these trails. The aim is to encourage people to explore the tremendous asset that they have on their doorsteps.”

The booklet is an initiative based on the Cycling City scheme, which encourages more people to cycle regularly.

The booklet will be available to collect from the City Museum & Art Gallery, the Central Library and venues around the harbour or can be ordered online from www.bristol.gov.uk/travelinfo
