As the days grow darker and the temperature drops, sushi may not be an obvious choice for a post-shopping lunch session. But the new Kill Chill (Volume 1) menu aims to change all that, with warming soups, salads and entrees to heat the coldest of Christmas hearts.
The restaurant was busy on this Wednesday afternoon but luckily we managed to get a booth – and seated by the conveyor belt, watching all the food go round, can certainly tempt you to top up the bill, as well as your stomach.
From the new menu, we started with garlic pepper endame beans, which were delicious, albeit a little fiddly to tackle with chopsticks.
Next, it was Mushroom Kara Age, also from the new menu and a fantastic vegetarian entree – the mixed mushrooms were marinated in soy and mirin then deep fried for extra crunch. The batter was filling but not greasy – making it a great combination.
My friend opted for Duck Udon Soup, which contains red chilli and coriander for a cockles-warming effect. He declared it excellent, and said the tender duck was perfectly cooked and plentiful.
We felt rather full already but a visit to Yo! Sushi isn’t complete without trying their fabulous noodles.
Though not quite as thick and plentiful as, say, a Wagamamas portion, the Chicken and Prawn Yakisoba were really flavoursome – tangy and tasty. The Japanese noodles were perfectly cooked and piping hot throughout.
To finish, as the evening drew in, we decided to treat ourselves to hot Saki, a fresh fruit salad and Mochi, a type of glutenous rice cake with a sugary twist. It won’t be to everyone’s taste, but worth trying just for experience sake.
