Move to crack down on Gloucester Road drinkers
Moves to crack down on anti-social behaviour from drinkers on Gloucester Road have been welcomed by councillors in the area.
Public consultation is due to begin on making the area by the Arches, through Bishopston to the Ashley Road traffic lights a Cumulative Impact Area (CIA).

Gloucester Road: Popular leisure area blighted by anti-social behaviour
This will mean that licensing councillors are likely not to approve longer licences or additional premises in the CIA area without owners showing they are offering something different.
Police are now being urged to patrol more frequently and in larger numbers in the area to prevent nuisance behaviour by drinkers leaving the many bars and pubs.
Redland Liberal Democrat councillor Sylvia Townsend said: “Over my 10 years as a councillor I have had many people complaining to me about nuisance caused by people being inconsiderate as they leave pubs and clubs.
“Problems include damage to cars and private gardens, people vomiting and urinating and people being too noisy which shows complete disregard for local residents.
“Also smokers, who are now forced out on to the street or into pub gardens when they want to smoke, then create additional noise that residents have to put up with.
“So I’m delighted about the CIA scheme, which will help to stop more licensed premises. We would also urge police to assist with the problems we have locally by patrolling more frequently and in larger numbers.”
The plans for the CIA scheme were approved for public consultation at Tuesday’s full council meeting.
Last month, Bristol24-7 reported on how similar problems along Whiteladies Road had spurred Cotham councillor Neil Harrison to call for more police presence at weekends.
Extra police cover was provided once the issue had been raised, with the promise of a long-term solution.
