Nottingham Forest 1 – 1 Bristol City…… Haynes’ last-gasp strike ‘felt like a winner’
Danny Haynes’s last-gasp equaliser at Nottingham Forest “felt like a winner” according to Bristol City boss Gary Johnson.
The striker – in fine recent form – popped up on the end of Jamie McCombe’s knock down to secure a 1-1 draw at the City Ground.
A goalless draw seemed inevitable before Wes Morgan scored from close range in the 85th minute. But Haynes’ fine strike kept the Robins in touch with the promotion places.
For Johnson, it was a “deserved” point. “We were gutted when they scored five minutes from the end and it looked like another late winner for them against us,” he told the official club website.
“We made a quick tactical change by pushing big Jamie (McCombe) forward, but we still had to find him. Danny Haynes was the most dangerous he’d been for the whole game and fair play to him snuck in for a last-gasp goal.
“Forest are a team on fire at the moment and we quietened them down. They didn’t have too many chances but there wasn’t much in the match.
“They scored from a set-piece which was disappointing, but it feels like a win when you score so late on.”
City have dropped out of the play-off places into seventh place in the Championship. Showing how close the league will be this year, the four teams now occupying the play-off places are all on 27 points – with City one point behind.
The Robins now have a two-week break before their next match away at high-flying West Brom.
