Bristol City 1 – 1 Sheffield Wednesday…… MK Dons 2 – 1 Bristol Rovers

Bristol City moved up to fifth in the Championship but missed out on the chance to move level on points with second-placed Newcastle after Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to share the points.

FootballThe mid-table Owls came to ‘Fortress Ashton Gate’ and looked to be on their way to defeat when Nicky Maynard scored his ninth goal of the season after 58 minutes.

But City could not hold on to their lead – Luke Varney scoring with 15 minutes left to deflate the home fans. Only a good save from City keeper Dean Gerken in the closing stages prevented a first home league defeat since December 2008.

City travel to Nottingham Forest next Saturday, and Robins fans can check out the task ahead when Forest take on Cardiff live on BBC2 on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, Bristol Rovers suffered their fifth defeat in a row with a 2-1 defeat at MK Dons.

A penalty after 71 minutes from Peter Leven gave the Dons the lead and it appeared the points had been wrapped up on 90 minutes when Jason Puncheon fired in from outside the area.

Darryl Duffy was able to pull a goal back seconds before full time, but there was not enough time to complete the comeback.

After a miserable October, Rovers have now dropped out of the play-off spots into eighth spot – two points behind Millwall in sixth – and will be hoping the FA Cup gets their season back on track when they host Southampton next Friday.
