Organisers of the St Pauls Carnival have revealed that they could not raise the £10,000 funding shortfall during Saturday’s event, BBC television said last night.

St Pauls Carnival: Licence issues stopped fundraising bid
Last week, Carnival Chairperson Peninah Achieng told Bristol24-7 that due to a lack of corporate sponsorship the carnival was thousands of pounds in the red, despite efforts to cut costs during the build-up.
Volunteers with buckets were lined up to ask for donations from the publci during the party, but artistic director Pax Nindi told the BBC that they were told on Saturday that they could not do this as they did not have the proper licence.
Despite a generous response from hundreds of people for donations from the main stage in Portland Square, the organisers have been unable to make up the funding gap.
Meanwhile, police have said that this year’s event passed off peacefully, with no major crimes reported.
The Evening Post reports a total of 20 crimes were reported during the day, which included nine thefts, two robberies, eight assaults and one count of criminal damage.
But unlike last year there were no more serious crimes committed at the celebration of Afro-Caribbean culture on Saturday.
