Quality not quantity for Rovers boss

Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope is waiting for quality rather than quantity when it comes to his summer transfer dealings.

After unveiling new signing Carl Regan at the Memorial Ground, Trollope told the club’s official website that “we are trying to get to a point where we have a first team squad rich in quality not just in the first eleven or twelve, but in the fifteen or sixteen members of the squad, to be able to get us where we want to go”.

BristolRoverslogoDefender Regan joined the Gas from MK Dons after rejecting a new contract, and Trollope revealed he was a player he had tracked for some time.

“His composure, defensive abilities and willingness to go forward caught our eye,” he added. “As a player, he will give us good quality, not only defensively, but going forward. He’s a good passer of the ball, loves to gallop forward and is a very good athlete, so we are very pleased to have added him to the squad.”

Trollope later told the BBC that fans must be patient as he looks to build his squad.

“Things aren’t easy if you’re after players who are sought after and good quality,” he told BBC Bristol.

“There’s a lot of interest in them, so things take time and patience is needed but I’ve had good backing and hopefully things will happen this week.”
